New Delhi/Mumbai: India has strengthened its position in the global wellness tourism sector by partnering with Cyprus, with Maharashtra emerging as a key destination to attract international wellness travellers.

The collaboration, highlighted at a recent international tourism summit, focuses on promoting wellness tourism through integrated healthcare, traditional healing systems, and modern medical infrastructure. The initiative aims to position India as a leading global hub for holistic health and wellness experiences.

Officials stated that the partnership between India and Cyprus will facilitate knowledge exchange, joint promotion, and development of wellness-focused travel experiences. The agreement is expected to enhance cross-border tourism flows and create new opportunities in medical and wellness tourism.

Maharashtra, in particular, is gearing up to welcome global wellness seekers by leveraging its strong healthcare ecosystem, advanced hospitals, and growing wellness infrastructure. The state is focusing on combining modern medicine with traditional practices such as Ayurveda, yoga, and holistic therapies to attract international visitors.

Experts noted that wellness tourism—defined as travel aimed at improving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being—is witnessing rapid global growth, and India’s diverse offerings place it in a competitive position.

The initiative also aligns with India’s broader vision of promoting medical value travel, strengthening healthcare services, and boosting tourism-driven economic growth.

Industry stakeholders believe that such international collaborations will not only enhance India’s global image in healthcare and wellness but also drive investments, create jobs, and improve service standards across the sector.

With strategic partnerships and state-level readiness, Maharashtra is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting a new wave of global wellness tourists in the coming years.
